My own private Highland Mall: going, going, gone January 10, 2011 – I grew up in a somewhat earlier era in Austin, but my memories of independent travel, and the excitement of Highland Mall are the same. My dad worked in the mall for a time. “Back in my day” they didn’t even have a food court. Just Chelsea Street Pub, Swensen’s, and the place where you ordered dinner by telephone from your table.
